Mile Wide Brewing Company's batches are under way, so look for beer soon.

Louisville KY's next brewery to open, Mile Wide Beer Company, reports that its first batches have been brewed and are safely working in their fermenters.

The best qualities of grassroots brewing are exhibited by the first two visible names in the "like" column: Rick of Akasha and Nicholas of Gordon Biersch, cheering a competitor which isn't.

Here is a look at Mile Wide's tap handles.

By the time I get back from Sicily, there should be new beers to sample.

The Old Louisville Brewery is about to open, with Axl Rose rumored as John Wurth's website pinch-hitter.

Remember how my provocative and controversial column used to be where the hiatus is now?

Remember my two (1, 2) amazing appearances on the now-defunct podcast?

You might recall that this here creator of revolutionary content has time on his hands and plenty of bones left to pick.

Tanned, rested and soapbox-ready -- which is precisely what Wade and Ken Mattingly no longer will be now that their brewery is about to open for business.

All breweries are a pain to coax into existence, but these guys have worked uncommonly long and hard to tap their dreams. Check out the Facebook page and make plans to try out the new kids on the block.

Now, John ...

Old Louisville Brewery Set to Open Friday, by John Wurth (Louisville Beer Dot Com)

Remember LouisvilleBeer.com? Remember John Wurth? (Who?) Remember Episode 11 of the now-defunct Louisville Beer Podcast?

Hopefully, you remember at least one of these. You might recall that this here’s a website that’s been on a bit of hiatus, because of Wurth’s busy day job and family schedule. Then, maybe you’ll also have some fond memories of when we had Wade and Ken Mattingly on the ol’ podcast back in November of the year 2013. Memories…

Well, here we are back in the year 2016, and Old Louisville Brewing is on the verge of opening on Friday, July 22. They hosted a soft open tonight, and invited me to attend. While they don’t have their Peanut Ale on tap YET, I got to sample some of the wares, and was pretty pleased.

Two new breweries coming to Louisville, and a cider bar to New Albany.

A long story made short: Some years ago at NABC's R & D Brewery, Jared Williamson took on an intern of sorts named Kyle Tavares. Later they both migrated to St. Louis to work for Schlafly, and now Kyle has returned to Louisville to brew at Mile Wide.

I've been following Old Louisville's progress on Twitter, and it's been fascinating to see how much has gone into rehabbing the building prior to brewing equipment arriving.

And: Matt's CIDEways project is a ten-minute walk from my house. A few weeks ago, we rode up to Indy and visited New Day, where cider and mead now sell 50/50.

I'm looking forward to all three of these.

Brewery Roundup: Mile Wide, Old Louisville, CIDEways on track to open in 2016, by Kevin Gibson (Insider Louisville)

Monnik Beer Co. and Akasha Brewing Co. both opened in late 2015, while Goodwood Brewing rose from the ashes of the Bluegrass Brewing Co. production brewery. In addition, 3rd Turn Brewing made its debut in Jeffersontown early this year.

But Louisville isn’t finished. Two breweries and a cidery are in various stages of completion in the area: Mile Wide Beer Co., Old Louisville Brewery, and CIDEways, which will eventually become a cider brewery in New Albany.

Here are the latest updates on these three up-and-comers ...

Donum Dei Brewery has a bouncing baby beer, and it's an IPA.

New Albany's first new brewery in 12 years has its first beer, and the birth is described at Donum Dei's page at Facebook.

The predicted opening date is "around Thanksgiving," and the location is the strip mall behind El Nopal, just off Grant Line Road (3211 Grant Line) on New Albany's north side -- a few hundred yards from NABC's original location.

Crescent Hill Craft House opens on Monday, August 25.

Looking for a wonderful draft beer list that refutes the oft-heard lament that one must drink beer from elsewhere, not from around Louisville, because our local beer isn't as interesting?

Red Yeti Brewing in Jeffersonville moves closer to opening.

I heard the first stirrings of Red Yeti Brewing roughly one year ago, and the semi-official public announcement was made in May, 2013. It's great news for Jeffersonville. Here's an update from Kevin "502 Brews" Gibson.

Red Yeti Brewing hopes to open by late January in Jeffersonville

Another microbrewery and pub is set to open in early 2014 – Red Yeti Brewing nears completion of its brewing operation and restaurant after completely overhauling a two-story structure in downtown Jeffersonville.

Owner Brandy Ronau said she and her husband Paul Ronau have been planning the brewery for three years, and renovations to the building at 256 Spring St. have been going on for about a year. Brandy said Red Yeti just got approved for a liquor license to have a full bar in addition to house-made beers.

Which led to an interesting digression elsewhere. What do you think? To me, it's a coincidence and no great shakes, although John's right: Out in the marketplace, and the parameters might be different. That's a long way off, and the important thing is for Red Yeti to open and begin brewing good beer.

What’s in a name?, by John King (LouisvilleBeer.com)

... (Kevin) Gibson discussed the proposed opening of Red Yeti Brewery in Jeffersonville, IN with their headlining beer “HopIPAtamus”. As soon I read that, I thought to myself two things:

1. How the hell do you say that? (pronounce it similarly to “hippopotamus”)

2. That sounds an awful lot like it’s neighbor to the west, Hoptimus from NABC. (Not to be confused with Hoptimus Prime by Ruckus Brewing…which can’t touch NABCs version)

HopIPAtamus. Hoptimus. That could get confusing if Red Yeti started putting beer out in the Kentuckiana market.

Of Maido's demise and Dragon King's Daughter's arrival..

Maido Essential Japanese is no more. The Frankfort Avenue (Louisville) establishment was a favorite of ours for more than seven years (first mention here was in 2005), and lately, the food had gotten better again after a lull following a management change.

I'll always recall and admire the way that Jim Huie handled the beer list during his tenure. Thanks; it was a gem, Jim.

Meanwhile, Maido's original owner, Toki Masabuchi, now the guiding force behind Dragon King's Daughter, is otherwise occupied. The build-out for the New Albany branch of DKD on the corner of Bank and Elm remains under way, albeit it slowly. The crew at Bank Street Brewhouse looks forward to DKD's arrival. So do my wallet and waistline. Sushi downtown? Please.
