12 packs of Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp Across America beers are now available at both Keg Liquors locations.

Yesterday we learned that on Wednesday, June 1, The Exchange pub + kitchen will be teaming with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company for a Surf & Turf Tap Takeover.

It's all part of New Albany Craft Beer Week, recognizing the great things that happen when America's craft beer scene meets New Albany's independent restaurants and bars.

What's most intriguing about the Surf & Turf Tap Takeover is the opportunity to enjoy draft versions of six Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across America collaboration beers.

We partnered with 6 regional brewing teams to create an incredible collaboration: 31 brewers together making 6 different beers for a one-time-only variety pack.

BCAA Family Values Imperial Brown Ale with Cocoa
BCAA West Latitude Session Rye with Hibiscus
BCAA Stout of the Union Robust Stout
BCAA Moxee-Moron Imperial Session IPA
BCAA Sweet Sunny South Southern Table Beer
BCAA Pat-Rye-Ot Revolutionary Pale Ale

As of 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, both locations of Keg Liquors have these variety packs in stock (12 x 12oz bottles; two each of six styles).

Supplies are limited, so if you want to get a sneak preview, now's the time ... and don't forget that the 11th Annual Keg Liquors Fest of Ale takes place in New Albany on Saturday, June 4.

New Albany Craft Beer Week: It's a celebration of small, independent and traditional in brewing, and the community.

New Albany Craft Beer Week: It's a celebration of small, independent and traditional in brewing, and the community.

In recent years, New Albany’s new generation of food and drink establishments has played a major role in putting the “boom” back into our town.

So, earlier in the year when Keg Liquors announced it would be relocating its popular Fest of Ale to New Albany’s Riverfront Amphitheater on Saturday, June 4, it offered the perfect opportunity to celebrate the continuing rise of craft beer in New Albany.

After all, Keg Liquors is the top-rated bottle shop for beer in the whole the state of Indiana, according to RateBeer.

And, craft beer has come to be a staple offering at the majority of New Albany’s food and drink establishments.

Accordingly, the New Albany Restaurant and Bar Association (NARBA) is delighted to announce a new promotion aimed at reinforcing the economic, cultural and flavorful contributions of America’s craft brewers.

It’s New Albany Craft Beer Week, running from Sunday, May 29 through Saturday, June 4.

Many such beer weeks are honored in America. They vary in size and scope, and range across districts, cities and states, but there is relative uniformity in the concept.

The idea is to educate and disseminate craft beer consciousness, with an ulterior motive of letting consumers know more about places that serve it, and the people who make it all possible.

Anchoring New Albany Craft Beer Week on either side is the city of New Albany’s Boomtown Ball & Festival on Sunday, May 29, and Keg Liquors Fest of Ale on Saturday, June 4.

New Albany’s independent restaurants and pubs are encouraged to schedule tastings, beer dinners and special releases during the period of May 29 through June 4.

Known events at press time are listed below; others will appear as they’re announced on the New Albany Craft Beer Week blog: http://nacraftbeerweek.blogspot.com/

For some craft beer background, according to the Brewers Association, “An American craft brewer is small, independent and traditional.”

  • Craft brewers are small brewers.
  • The hallmark of craft beer and craft brewers is innovation. Craft brewers interpret historic styles with unique twists and develop new styles that have no precedent.
  • Craft beer is generally made with traditional ingredients like malted barley; interesting and sometimes non-traditional ingredients are often added for distinctiveness.
  • Craft brewers tend to be very involved in their communities through philanthropy, product donations, volunteerism and sponsorship of events.
  • Craft brewers have distinctive, individualistic approaches to connecting with their customers.
  • Craft brewers maintain integrity by what they brew and their general independence, free from a substantial interest by a non-craft brewer.
  • The majority of Americans live within 10 miles of a craft brewer.

With three operational brewing companies (Donum Dei Brewery, Floyd County Brewing and the New Albanian Brewing Company), New Albany now has more breweries than at any time since 1907 – and not to forget our friends at River City Winery, one of Indiana’s few urban wineries.

Throughout New Albany, and especially downtown, great craft beer selections have become the norm. Eateries like Big Four Burgers, Dragon King’s Daughter, The Exchange and Feast BBQ (to name just four) always have ample craft beer selections drawn from Indiana (120+ breweries), Kentucky (21+) and America (4,000) as a whole.

New Albany’s new generation of restaurants and bars is independent, unique and locally focused. Not coincidentally, these are the characteristics that define America’s craft beer revolution.

Come down, have some fun – and always remember to drink responsibly.

Cheers!

Newspaper recognizes local "suds-selling savants." Next, it's a pink slip for headline writers.

Previously my reaction to RateBeer's annual list was dissected, though this feature in the local newspaper's entertainment insert focuses more on Keg Liquors.

It's worth a read, but the headline ... peee-you.

Keg Liquors Fest of Ale will move to New Albany's Riverfront Amphitheater in 2016; the 11th annual edition slated for June 4.

(cross-posted from NA Confidential)

Saturday, June 4th remains the date for the 11th Annual Keg Liquors Fest of Ale, but the 2016 edition of the festival will be held at the Riverfront Amphitheater in New Albany.

Here's the press release from Todd Antz.

---

Fest of Ale on the move.

New Albany, Ind. (February 2016) – After 10 successful years in Clarksville, the Keg Liquors Fest of Ale is changing venues. The 11th Annual Fest of Ale will be held on June 4th, 2016 at the New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater.

“Moving the event was a tough decision, but we felt that we had outgrown the space we were using at St. Anthony’s,” said Todd Antz, owner of Keg Liquors. “St. Anthony’s has been very generous with their facilities and support over the years, and we could not have grown the event to the size it is today without their help.

"We felt that the event was becoming a bit too taxing for their neighbors and parishioners, and that it was best for both parties if we moved on. We’ve always had a great relationship with St. Anthony’s and look forward to working with them in any future opportunities that may come up. I can’t thank everyone at St. Anthony’s enough for their support over the last 7 years of hosting our charity event. We could not have done this without them.”

The New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater, located below East Main Street at the foot of Pearl Street, is home each spring and summer to numerous free concerts, productions, festivals and other events.

The move to the Riverfront Amphitheater will allow the Fest of Ale to expand in size, provide more parking, as well as having access to all of the great restaurants and businesses in downtown New Albany.

“The Fest of Ale has always been a grassroots festival that promotes independent breweries and businesses, so moving the event to an area that has reinvigorated itself with all of the great shops and restaurants made perfect sense to us,” continued Antz. “The City of New Albany was very excited to help us with the event, and we look forward to working with them to make this the best Fest of Ale ever.”

Tickets for the 2016 Fest of Ale will go on sale at the beginning of April.

Fest of Ale in SoIn.

This week's edition of SoIn includes a diagram of this year's Fest of Ale grounds and a preview of the annual Keg Liquors celebration for the benefit of the Crusade for Children.

Sunday, May 27, 2012

It's that time again: The 7th Annual Keg Liquors Fest of Ale is Saturday, June 2.

I haven't taken time to tout Fest of Ale simply because it is unlikely that any beer lover within a hundred mile radius doesn't already know about metro Louisville's finest annual beer fest.

The seventh edition is Saturday, June 2. It seems like only yesterday that I was hanging on for dear life to the tent in hopes we wouldn’t be staging a beer-soaked revival of the Wizard of Oz. With all due respect to Todd, the St. Anthony's location is aesthetically superior to the parking lot on Lewis & Clark. The church basement might come in handy, although this year, the weather forecast is looking good.

NABC will be there with Rosa, our draft truck, dispensing these beers: Black & Blue Grass, Naughty Girl 2012, Oaktimus, Propagator Dopplebock and Yakima Rye IPA (in the Hop Tent).

Here's the rundown.

7th Annual Keg Liquors Fest of Ale
June 2nd, 3 - 7 PM

What is the Fest of Ale? It is a charity beer festival to help raise funds for the WHAS Crusade for Children.

The 7th annual Fest rolls around on Saturday, June 2, from 3-7 p.m. For the fourth year, it's on tap for St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 320 N. Sherwood Ave., Clarksville, Ind.

More than 40 breweries and four craft brew distributors will serve samples of more than 150 craft and import beers, and six fine wine distributors will serve wine samples. The St. Anthony's Men's Club will cook up hamburgers, hot dogs, brats and the like.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event. They're available now at Keg Liquors, 617 E. Lewis & Clark Pkwy., Clarksville; or their New Albany location at 302 Pearl St, New Albany; or online at http://www.kegliquors.com/fest_of_ale.html.

Beer Event Watch: BBC (Shelbyville Road) Beer Tasting at Keg Liquors, October 29.

Submitted by Todd Antz, owner of Keg Liquors (Keeping Kentuckiana "Beer'd" Since 1976) at 617 E. Lewis & Clark Parkway in Clarksville. I'm holding out for Kiwi fruit in the Randall, but we'll have to wait and see.

Join us on Thursday, October 29th from 5 - 8 PM as our friends from BBC Shelbyville Road stop in for the next in line of our "locals only" beer tastings. Jerry and Sam will be in with a great lineup of their beers, and an appearance by a Randall the Enamel Animal, that we will use as a surprise infuser of one of their beers. Will it be hops? Will it be coffee? Or maybe another surprise ingredient will be used.

Here is the lineup:

- Rye 75 - Rye 75 is a tribute to our friends along Interstate 75. The malty sweetness extracted from Canadian pale ale and French caramel malt is balanced by the spicy flavor of German rye malt which composes 30% of the grist bill. In addition to its big malt profile Rye 75 has an assertive dose of American Cascade and Columbus hops lending a citrusy and floral flavor and aroma. This beer has been dry hopped in the keg with more Cascade hops for even greater hop aroma.

- Professor Gesser's Mind Numbing Ale - dry hopped with Simcoe and Cascade, from the otherwise mild-mannered Kansan and self-described social experiment, Jerry Gnagy.

- Luna de Miel Raspberry Mead 0 Historically a meade was made to celebrate the union of a couple and given to them for celebration of their marriage. Truly defined as a braggot, BBC Luna De Miel is a fermented honey ale flavored with a blend of raspberries and blackberries. Luna De Miel is a refreshing change from standard BBC offerings. Luna De Miel is effervescent, fruity, and light, yet warming from its moderate strength.

- Heine Brothers Coffee Stout - This oatmeal stout is brewed with English roasted barley and caramunich malt which gives a roasty and slightly sweet malt flavor. The addition of flaked oats lends creaminess and body to this pitch black ale. The coffee will be added to the hot wort (unfermented beer) after boiling. This will extract good flavor without adding bitterness or burnt flavors. Freshly brewed coffee will also be added to the beer after fermentation is completed and the beer is ready to be served. This will give the freshest coffee flavor and aroma.

and a couple of surprise beers as well.

This is a free event and open to the public (21 and older!)
