Starting today: Extended Sunday hours at Bank Street Brewhouse.

Beginning today (Sunday, July 21), we’re extending Sunday opening hours at Bank Street Brewhouse until 9:00 p.m. The kitchen will close at 8:30 p.m.

The revamped Sunday schedule looks like this:

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday Brewhouse Brunch menu and Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar

2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., regular food menu

9:00 p.m., closing

All day long, growlers and bombers of NABC beer are available to go, because on Sundays in Indiana, the only carry-out beer comes to you from Hoosier small breweries. For carry-out wine on Sundays, there's the River City Winery just up the street.

Perhaps two-way street, sooner rather than later?

NABC Pizzeria (sans Public House) open 11 - 5 on New Year's Eve.

The NABC Pizzeria (sans Public House; pizza side only) will be open on Monday, December 31 (New Year's Eve), from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Last call and kitchen closing will be at 4:30 p.m., and all NABC drafts will be on special, including Hoosier Daddy, which is appropriate seeing that Indiana University opens Big 10 play on Monday afternoon.

Both the Pizzeria/Public House and Bank Street Brewhouse will be closed on January 1 (New Year's Day), reopening on Wednesday, January 2. Note that on Wednesday, Bank Street Brewhouse will open at 2:00 p.m.

Speaking personally: Thanks to all of you who make NABC possible. We appreciate it, and we're looking forward to a great 2013.

NABC's thunderous business hours this Saturday, April 21.

NABC will be on hand with Elector and Bob's Old 15-B for the 5th Annual Craft Beer Extravaganza for Thunder Over Louisville, presented by Buckhead Mountain Grill and Rocky's Sub Pub under the big top on the northern shore of the Ohio.

Meanwhile, NABC's on-premise locations will be keeping the following hours:

Bank Street Brewhouse: Normal business hours (11:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.)

Pizzeria & Public House: The Pizzeria will observe regular hours (11:00 a.m. - midnight), but the Public House will open at 5:00 p.m.

Bank Street Brewhouse today: Open for beers at 11 a.m., no food until 5:30 p.m.

I just received word from Chef Josh that the small walk-in at Bank Street Brewhouse shut down overnight, with all contents lost. We'll be replacing the foodstuffs stored therein, and repairing the malfunction, and so although we'll be open at 11:00 a.m. to serve beer, there will be no meals at BSB today until 5:30 p.m. dinner service. Hopefully we'll be unaffected after that.

As during other unexpected outage occurrences previously, it's a great opportunity to explore the other restaurants in downtown New Albany. Good tidings for the future: I spoke with Israel Landin last night, and it appears that the Rosita's move to Pearl Street is back on track. More later.

Bank Street Brewhouse closed today for Easter, but we'll be at Louisville Beer Store for Chef Josh's food and beer pairings.

Bank Street Brewhouse is taking today off for Easter.

We'll reopen on Tuesday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m.

My recommendation today is the Louisville Beer Store and Day Three of NABCieged Harder (II). NABC has taken control of LBS's draft lines for the weekend, and the first two days were suitably revolutionary.

Chef Josh will be at LBS today for The Pairing, with a special 4-course food and matched beer flight beginning at 3:00 p.m. Here's the menu:

Belgian Dubbel
rabbit & accompaniments

Hoosier Daddy
shrimp & grapefruit ceviche

Thunderfoot
celery root soup, duck confit salad & blood orange

Smoked Abzug
Kentucky spoonfish caviar & eggs with crepes

For more information, visit the Louisville Beer Store web site.

And don't forget: PA Project headlines Bank Street patio kickoff party this Wednesday, April 7.

Saturday, March 06, 2010

Normal hours at the Pizzeria & Public House today, and HBG at Bank Street until 4:30 p.m.

NABC's Pizzeria & Public House is open from 11:00 a.m. today (Saturday, March 6) for business as usual.

NABC Bank Street Street Brewhouse is hosting a private party for the visiting busload of Hoosier Beer Geeks (Indianapolis) during lunchtime today, and will be open for business at 4:30 p.m.

If you are an employee of Indiana American Water, you'll be charged an additional 300% at both our locations to help begin recouping the money lost owing to your company's incompetence yesterday. Thanks for understanding.

Usual hours at both NABC locations. Who else?

As of now (11:00 a.m.) it's NABC business hours as usual today: 11:00 a.m. at the Pizzeria & Public House, and 2:00 p.m. at Bank Street Brewhouse. We're playing it by ear, and I'll keep you posted if anything changes.

Anyone else like to tag in? Who is open? Who is closed?

FYI: Tomorrow night's a long way off, but at this time, I do not foresee altering the planned "Here's to Beer" class meeting. It will go at 6:30 p.m. unless something unexpected occurs.

Winter Hours begin at Bank Street Brewhouse today.

During the winter months, BSB will be opening at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Weekend hours and schedules remain the same as before. We're also working on winterizing the Taxpayer Memorial Patio, and next week there'll be a full list of festivities for the delayed Grand Opening, with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday. More on that tomorrow.

Here is the BSB winter plan of operation for 2009/10, effective today, and note that we're still closed on Mondays.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
BSB hours: 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

From 2:00 p.m., “Brotzeit” (cheese plate, charcuterie, snacks, frites, mussels, etc.) It’s a Bavarian term that denotes appetizers for the times when the kitchen isn’t preparing full meals.

Kitchen hours: 5:30 – 9:00 p.m., featuring some of Josh Lehman’s and Andrew Gunn’s traditional menu favorites as well as new “Chefs’ Choice” fixed price menus -- three courses for $16 (not including sales tax and service), only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Friday and Saturday
BSB hours: 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

From 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., our customary lunch menu. From 2:00 p.m., afternoon “Brotzeit” snacks.

Kitchen hours: 5:30 – 10:00 p.m. for traditional menu favorites and nightly “Chefs’ Choice” specials.

Sunday
BSB Hours: 12:00 Noon – 8:00 p.m.

12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m., NABC’s Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary Bar, featuring craft-distilled Hangar One Vodka and your choice of herbs, spices, garnishes and hot sauces in what might be termed “brunch in a glass.”

Kitchen hours: Noon – 7:00 p.m., with “Brotzeit” and “Chefs’ Choice” menu selections.

Bank Street Brewhouse's winter hours and special beer days begin Tuesday, November 3.

As previously noted, we're mixing things up a bit at Bank Street Brewhouse beginning on Tuesday, November 3. Since opening in March, we've been amassing and collating information, and as with any business, there are certain trends that have come to stand out. The aim now is to deploy our brewing and culinary resources during those times when they're best calculated to succeed.

Those NABC beers considered part of the regular rotation are being brewed at Bank Street Brewhouse, and a full roster of seasonals and specialties are being crafted at Grant Line. Chef Josh Lehman and his kitchen crew have drawn rave reviews from the start. Now's the time to extend the perimeter and fulfill our mandate of pairing beer and food in a way that no brewpub near New Albany is even attempting -- hence, the revisions and points of emphasis outlined below. We'll be able to offer evening beer dinners and expanded pairing/educational opportunities, so look for forthcoming announcements on these.

See the program and schedule below, and as always, thanks for your support.

BEER SPECIAL DAYS

NABC Session Tuesday
Celebrating the joys of session-strength beers with 20-oz pints of Abzug, Community Dark and Tafel Bier for $3.00, all day.

NABC Garage Brewery Wednesday

At our original “garage brewery” at the Pizzeria & Public House on New Albany’s north side, Jared Williamson holds the brief for brewing specialties, seasonals and numerous creative experiments. When they’re finished and pouring at Bank Street, we will select one or two to offer at a reduced price each Wednesday, all day.

B & B Thursday

20 oz. pints of Beak’s Best (American Bitter) and Bob’s Old 15-B (Porter) are the emphasis, both standing alone at a special price all day, and as the subject of special pairings with Thursday’s fixed price menu.

The Bank Street Brewhouse will observe tomorrow's holiday with beer and chocolate.

NABC Grant Line (pub and pizzeria) will be closed on Easter Sunday. Then again, we're always closed on Sunday, aren't we?

However, the irreligious among us (we rather enjoy each other's company) will be opening the Bank Street Brewhouse from Noon to 8:00 p.m. for frivolity, beer and chocolate. The latter will be the only food available, because the kitchen will be closed, unless Chef Josh permits us to grill the Easter Bunny outside.

If you're in the market for adult refreshment between religious observances, family visits and meals, drop by and say hello.

One day just behind the unread "closed" sign.

Brewer Jared Williamson and I share a recurring joke about how we can't understand non-readers, seeing as neither of us can drive down the road without reading every sign we see.

All of them. We just can't help it.

There were having team meetings today at the Bank Street Brewhouse, which is closed on Mondays. As we proceeded with discussions, there were periodic arrivals of people unaware of the operating hours, and that's fine. We're just starting. A few of them paused to read the sign that explains our hours. Others pushed on the door, which was locked for the most part, but once or twice was unlatched. The Monday closing would be politely explained to them, and accompanying questions answered. Most of the time this was sufficient.

At around 3:00 p.m., with the door unlocked because of someone's smoke break outside, a smartly dressed older couple reeking of affluence pushed through. One of the servers explained matters, and the woman was taken aback, saying that as out of towners, it had been hard to find us, but they had to come after the newspaper article in the Courier-Journal on Saturday - "the food looked so good in the picture."

They asked if there was a good place to eat nearby, and we said "La Rosita's" in unison; the best Mexican in the area.

"We don't eat Mexican food."

Uh huh. You're losing points fast, lady.

With the Windsor open only for lunch, the best alternative was Studio's, and I told them so, adding that it surprised me that the Saturday C-J article didn't have the business hours. Of course, I knew it did.

"Well, we didn't actually read the article," she replied.

Or call the phone number.

At this point, I'd lost interest. You drive out of the way because of a photo, perhaps noting the headline alone, and then what? Driving down every street until there wwas a banner so large that it couldn't be missed?

Then he looked at her and said, "Why don't we eat at Penn Station instead?"

Candid Camera, anyone? Is this my payback for bad karma?

I considered saying something like this:

"I can't help noticing that you're fairly well off. How exactly did you manage that? Did you inherit it, or did you come up with a way to fleece people dumber than you?"

Because I'm masquerading as an adult, I refrained. It wasn't easy, but at least we didn't have to try and recommend beers to them.

White Zinfandel, anyone?
