Me: "Now that Lynn’s is gone, Bank Street Brewhouse gently reminds you that we have Sunday brunch, too."

At Insider Louisville, Steve Coomes picked up on my media blast last week:

Manly meals: Big brews, beef and bloody Marys for brunch at Bank Street Brewhouse.

... If, like me, you lean toward savory, single plate selections (never been a piled-high pancake and whipped cream waffle fan), this is a good option. No syrupy-sweet selections on the limited but diverse menu that includes BSB’s fantastic croque madame (which shares my pick for the best hot sandwich around with the Brown Hotel’s hot brown), Kentucky eggs Benedict, chorizo hash, pork tacos and burgers.

Plus, the joint serves adult beverages beginning at 10 a.m., a full three hours before Louisville spots start pouring poisons.

Don’t think that’s a big deal? Ask any Sunday brunch server how many times angry patrons confirm, “What? I can’t get a bloody Mary until 1?”

In the aftermath of the demise of Lynn's Paradise Cafe, as various metro food and dining commentators hurriedly sought to answer the pressing question, "Omigod, where do people go for Sunday brunch now that Lynn's is gone?," it occurred to me that at least two of them had omitted Bank Street Brewhouse -- while managing to include Toast on Market (New Albany location), although in fairness, the origins of Toast in Louisville probably contributed to its inclusion.

If you're standing outside the bolted doors and shuttered windows at Lynn's, it's no more than 15 minutes driving to Bank Street Brewhouse, and probably less on most days.

Hence the refresher course. Here is what I distributed, including an updated full menu.

---

Now that Lynn’s is gone, Bank Street Brewhouse gently reminds you that we have Sunday brunch, too, and moreover, Indiana offers a certifiable Sunday brunch bonus: Adult beverages can be served as early as 7:00 a.m. north of the Ohio -- although at Bank Street Brewhouse, we don’t open until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday (brunch ends at 2:00 p.m., and we close at 6:00 p.m.)

10: 00 a.m.? That’s what we Hoosiers call a good three-hour head start.

The weekly Sunday brunch menu, including Kentucky Eggs Benedict, 3D Valley Farms Angus Burger and Croque Madame, is augmented on the first Sunday of the month with an Omelet Station and Prime Rib Carvery.

Every Sunday, our Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar starts along with food service at 10:00 a.m. The Blood Mary Bar dates from Bank Street Brewhouse’s inception in 2009, making it one of the first in the Louisville metro area. Choose from a selection of garnishes, spices, sauces and seasonings, and craft your own restorative flavor profile.

Other special drinks include Mimosas (with Huber Sparkling Wine), Sweet Lucy Cream Liqueur & Starlight Coffee, and a selection of small batch bourbons and spirits.

Of course, NABC is proud or beer lineup. Twelve draft lines and two hand-pulls pour our beers of proven merit: Standards like Beak’s Best, Black & Bluegrass, Community Dark, Elector, Hoptimus and Tafel, alongside rotating seasonals and one-offs (Solidarity; Bonfire of the Valkyries; Hoosier Daddy; Naughty Girl; and more).

In Indiana, small breweries and wineries are the exception to the Sunday carry-our prohibition, and we sell growlers (64-ounce draft jugs) and 22-ounce “bomber” bottles to go on Sunday (and every day of the week except Monday, when Bank Street Brewhouse is closed).

Thank you,

Roger A. Baylor

Kind words about Bank Street Brewhouse's Sunday brunch.

I'm the Publican, and I support this message. It was written by Shane Campbell, and appeared at the Louisville Restaurants Forum. Kudos to the staff, cast and crew at BSB.

---

We had out of town friends of friends in for the weekend to celebrate a 40th birthday. As we were wrapping up the party last night we wondered where to go for brunch. That's easy! Bank Street Brewhouse. Brunch at BSB is great in so many ways.

First every great brunch must have a great Bloody Mary and the lovely Sarah expertly helms ten odd feet of Bloody Mary bar. Bloody Marys at the BSB are made with interesting small batch vodkas and it's a pleasure to interact with Sarah while she creates your drink. As a regular I can tell you that Sarah's expertise at making your drink is only exceeded by her talent at story telling. If you hang around the bar till the crowd clears out you just might get to hear one.

Of course there is fantastic beer! The BSB is my favorite place to drink beer. This is not because they have the largest selection of beer in town. That would be found a few miles away at the NABC Pizzeria. No, it's because the beer here is always interesting, super fresh, and I can count on their being a core of favorites with exciting new beers nearly every week. This morning I had a couple of pints of Weefoot. Weefoot is described as a dry session stout. The board says it was 48IBUs which I believe is fairly bitter for a stout but it was nicely balanced by a malty base and a measure of sour thrown in at the end. Complex but not at all heavy, this beer was perfect with my breakfast. Which brings me to the food.

Brunch at BSB on the first Sunday of the month means Chef Matt Weirich's prime rib and omelet station. This is a closeup experience and on first sight elicits oohs and aahs.

Chef sets up right in the dinning room and with a couple of gas burners puts together omelet art with beautifully fresh ingredients. He pairs this with generous slices of prime rib that has the best flavor I've ever had. I asked Chef what the flavors in the meat were due to. He smiled and gave me a run down that I'm sure any chef or even experienced cook would have appreciated but it was way over my head. I heard salt, pepper, and lots of Dijon mustard and olive oil. It was delicious!

I was the only one who selected this option today and believe me I was soaking up a lot of food envy at my end of the table of ten. I shared the prime rib and each person said that they would be getting this next time. Ha! They'll have a month to wait! I told Chef that I thought he should put the prime rib on the regular menu.

As we were waiting for our checks several people asked me the price for omelet and prime rib. I hadn't even asked and we all started guessing what it would be. No one guessed $15. Cheers!

The plan for Easter Sunday Brunch at Bank Street Brewhouse.

Here's the Easter Sunday Brunch (April 8) plan for Bank Street Brewhouse, courtesy of GM Mark Prince:

Chef Matt Weirich will personally be running a Build-Your-Own-Omelet station with fresh ingredients and cheeses.

There'll be slow-cooked Prime Rib, as well as the regular Brewhouse Brunch menu and the Bloody Mary Bar.

We'll be introducing the Bank Street Brewhouse Bourbon Coffee: Starlight Coffee's Brewhouse Blend and your choice of bourbon, with whipped cream and cocoa powder, served in a white and dark chocolate swirled glass.

Brunch hours are as usual, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with afternoon hours until 6:00 p.m.

The weather outlook is warm, with a high of 70 and no rain.

Needless to say, NABC drafts and carry-out growlers and bombers.

A resumption of Sunday Brewhouse Brunch at NABC's Bank Street Brewhouse.

After a two-week holiday outage, the acclaimed (well, by me) Brewhouse Brunch resumes this Sunday, January 8, at Bank Street Brewhouse.

Brunch menu items will be served from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with afternoon hours lasting until 6:00 p.m. The inimitable Sarah Howell will be tending the Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary Bar, which at inception more than two years ago was the first of its kind in this area. Growlers of proven merit will be dispensed and refilled. The new patio doors may even be installed; who knows. They're supposed to arrive at any minute.

We have no Van Halen tickets, so don't even ask.

Also, remember that we're only a week away: Old Lightning Rod Day is Sunday, January 15, at Bank Street Brewhouse.

Be there, or be Legacy Square. That's an inside joke for New Albanians in the know.

Here’s what NABC is doing this week.

Nutzoid holiday weeks begin now.

Naughty Claus, version 2011, is back on tap at both NABC locations, because Santa needs daze off, too. Naughty Claus is NABC's rich, full-bodied holiday spiced seasonal that changes wardrobe a bit each year as we experiment with festive additives.

Get some tonight, because on Thursday, November 24 (Thanksgiving Day), both Bank Street Brewhouse and the Pizzeria & Public House will be closed. Both of our locations will-reopen at 11:00 a.m. on Plaid Friday, November 25.

On Saturday, November 26, NABC’s Josh Hill will be pouring samples at Kaiser Tobacco Store on Pearl Street from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. as part of downtown New Albany’s annual Jingle Walk and Holiday Fest. Later that same evening, we’ll be manning the concessions at the Art Store for Deck the Walls (circa 2:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.)

Also, please note these new, expanded opening hours for Bank Street Brewhouse. Operating hours at the Pizzeria & Public House remain as before.
