Effective on April 22, 2013, we’re shifting our local Indiana distribution to Cavalier Distributing. The patience of our customers is greatly appreciated as we transition local orders and deliveries to Cavalier, which already handles NABC throughout the remainder of Indiana. Read the rest here:

An unprecedented third "troika" weekend of Gravity Head begins on Friday, March 8.
Gravity Head 2013’s third weekend begins at 11:00 a.m. this Friday morning, March 8, and it’s going to be a troika of epic dimensions.
It’s “Cavalier Distributing & Founders Brewing Night,” but this alone inadequately describes the scene, because most and possibly all of the Gravity Head tap space will be allocated to three breweries. Representatives from each will be on hand. Follow the highlighted links for more detailed descriptions of their beers:
Flat12 Bierwerks (Indianapolis IN)
Founders Brewing Company (Grand Rapids MI)
New Albanian Brewing Company (New Albany IN)
Founders and NABC are distributed in Indiana by Cavalier, while Flat12 is available through World Class Beer.

Big Red's intent to stock NABC is an intolerable provocation.
Earlier, you were given the background:
Now, for the rest of the story.
Since 2009, when New Albanian Brewing Company first began distributing our beer statewide in Indiana, we have made absolutely no effort to sell anything to Big Red Liquors. Our wholesaler in greater Indiana, Cavalier Distributing, has followed suit -- at our request. From the start, I made it clear that we wanted nothing to do with them.
The reason for this is that NABC has no desire to be partnered, whether directly or ephemerally – neither in a mercantile sense nor metaphorically in any sense – with the very same fascistic organization that massively disrespected us nine years ago, in 2003. In spite of my reputation, I hold few grudges. This is one of them.
Quite simply, I’d rather pour the beer down the drain than sell it to Big Red. I’d rather drink Miller Lite or shop at Wal-Mart than see Big Red sell our beer. You get the idea.
Yes, I understand that some will find it incredible that I’d intentionally deny my own company the opportunity to sell beer through such a large retailer. But to me, it isn’t always about money, and it also isn’t that Bloomington has been denied the chance to buy NABC. In spite of Big Red’s best efforts to corner the Bloomington market and eliminate competition, consumers there have still have some options. They can buy NABC draft at several on-premise locations, and bomber bottles at Bloomingfoods and Sahara Mart, among others.
Earlier this week, Big Red’s beer manager John Glumb – malicious co-author of NABC’s dreadful 2003 experience at Big Red’s Groveling and Supplication Fest – contacted Cavalier to request information about stocking our bomber bottles at Big Red. Obviously, I cannot ask Cavalier to refrain from doing business with Big Red in this instance. To do so might endanger their relationship with Big Red, and it’s not Cavalier’s fight. I’m not even sure my doing so would be legal, although what I’m quite sure of is this: Were I to act in a manner to prevent such transactions, I‘d be resorting to the very same strong-armed, bullying, oblivious tactics that Big Red traditionally has used in pursuit of its monopolistic aims, and since these disgust me, I shan’t.
Rather, I asked Cavalier to convey my concerns to Glumb; this was done, and he predictably responded by giggling at the past, and saying that since he has no reason to apologize to me, he’ll do as he pleases, because after all, what use is it being the 800-lb gorilla in the market if you don’t act like one?
I don’t know about you, but in my world, when someone tells me that he or she hates my guts, chances are quite good that I’ll refrain from relations with them. It’s all I’m asking of Big Red: Either apologize and make peace, or leave NABC the f**k alone. The answer would appear to be a raspberry, and Glumb probably thinks its clever.
And yet I am forever prepared to make peace and move on, and I certainly do not hold a grudge against people currently employed at Big Red, who were not on hand for the debacle of 2003. Perhaps there is a compromise solution: We’ll hold a referendum via secret ballot, and if 51% of Big Red’s employees agree with me that Glumb is a self-serving asshole, I’ll concede the point, dismantle the barricades and sign off on shipments.
In the grand tradition of “regime change now,” I’ve directed a letter to Big Red’s president asking the engorged retailer to cease and desist from purchasing NABC beers – to please just plain leave us alone – until the chief instigator Glumb either apologizes to me or is no longer employed by the company.
Isn’t that reasonable? Isn’t life too short for one to be compelled to fluff people and entities that are revolting to me? Can't they just back off?
Nine years later, and absolute power still corrupts Big Red Liquors absolutely.
Talk to NABC that way, and the Curmudgeon will write about it - now, tomorrow, and forever more, until an apology is forthcoming.

Founders and Cavalier Distributing Day at Gravity Head: Friday, March 11.
Tonight we welcome a visiting delegation of revelers from Cavalier Distributing, the official Indiana wholesaler for Founders Brewing Company. Founders Brewing's John Host is coming to Gravity Head on Friday, March 11.
Mark your calendars, because John Host of Founders Brewing Company will be in the house on Friday evening, March 11, and a wave of Founders ales for Gravity Head will be here to greet him. John will be accompanying the merry crew from Cavalier Distributing, and we're looking forward to a fun and educational drinking evening.
The following listed Gravity Head selections from Founders will be on tap for the occasion. Recalling that nine beers from Three Floyds opened Gravity Head on February 25, it seems appropriate that eight from Founders will kick off the symbolic "second half." Note that the numbers denote BJCP style categories.
22C Founders Backwoods Bastard 9.2%
22C Founders Black Biscuit 10.5%
13F Founders Breakfast Stout (2009) 8.3%
14C Founders Devil Dancer Triple IPA 12%
14C Founders Double Trouble IPA 9.4%
22C Founders KBS Kentucky Breakfast Stout 2010 11.2%
Also:
13F Founders Imperial Stout (10.5%), a bonus unlisted Gravity Head selection, and 22C Founders Newaygo County Cherry (7%), a barrel-aged version of Founders Cerise, which normally would land at 20 (Fruit Beer).

Wednesday's Hoptimus tapping at Barley Island's new Broad Ripple taproom.
As many of you already know, John Campbell, Josh Hill and the Publican ventured to Indianapolis for an NABC sales day on Wednesday, December 9, leading up to the unveiling of Hoptimus at Barley Island Broad Ripple at 6:00 p.m.
A long day spent with Mat Gerdenich and the Cavalier crew had me losing my voice (and much of my liver) even before the headline event began, but that's show biz.
After a caffeine-fueled morning tour of the Cavalier warehouse, culminating in Mark Kocher and I transcribing a shipment of Anstich kegs, John and Josh departed with Cavalier's Greg Blackman. Mat and I started our day at Spencer's Stadium Tavern, where we were shown an incredible collection of antique cans, many unopened, in the cellar.
We then lunched at Dick's Bodacious BBQ downtown, and I confirmed that 15-B Porter and pulled pork work very well together.
Next, there was a stop at the new Sun King brewery and taproom (also downtown) to chat with Indy brewing stalwarts Dave Colt and (briefly) Clay Robinson. Look for Sun King to randomly pour at the Public House early in 2010, and for their Imperial Cream Ale to appear at Gravity Head.

After a pause for breath, a drive to Zionsville followed, and I enjoyed a fun conversation with Patrick of Patrick's Kitchen & Drinks, where Elector is on tap. I've not met Patrick, but we go way back, because during a stint as general manager at the Bloomington Brewing Company, he observed the villainy of NABC's ouster by the monopolistic fascists at the Big Red Liquors festival on April 10, 2003.
After that, Mat navigated the icy squalls to Broad Ripple, and we embarked upon a visit to the Corner Wine Bar/Wellington's (Beak's Best soon will be on tap in the cozy confines of the latter), and rejoined the joint sales team at Chumley's Beer House, where many excellent beers currently are on tap, displacing the golden lagers that once were the norm.
Finally, it was a short stumble to Barley Island Broad Ripple, and a shiny Hoptimus pressed into my hand before I had the chance to shed my jacket.
That's efficient service in my book, and you'd forget your hop additions, too, if you'd been through my various opening acts (and pints) that I did.
We appreciate Jeff Eaton and the BIBR team's efforts, and it was wonderful to see Tom, Veronica, Joe, Rita, the Involuntary's, and the entire Indianapolis craft beer community, from which so many braved the elements to absorb hops intravenously.
Straight from the Hoosier Beer Geek crew, who were out in force, photos of the evening can be viewed here.

Selling beer.
It is axiomatic, isn't it? One must sell the product, or all the production in the world is meaningless. It strikes me that I haven't introduced Josh Hill, who is NABC's junior outside sales representative on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. Josh is concentrating primarily on making friends and finding draft lines on Floyd and Clark counties, although we'll be broadening that to include a bit of territory to the east and west. John Campbell's still working the Louisville side (via River City Distributing). The idea remains to self-distribute in Floyd and Clark counties, while Cavalier Distributing service the remainder of the state. Our first keg shipment went to Cavalier earlier this week, so if you're pub owner or beer fan outside of our limited southern self-distribution area, know that Beak's Best, Bob's 15-B and Elector are available. If you like our beers, the best way to help is ask your local to check out Cavalier's line of NABC drafts.
Our sales effort is evolving, so for further information, contacts and a sales pitch, write me or Josh.

Wholesaler team coming to visit on March 20, and bringing tasty breakfast with them.
One of our Public House wholesaler, Cavalier Distributing, handles the fine beers brewed by Founders Brewing Company (Grand Rapids, Michigan).Founders brews an excellent barrel-aged stout: Kentucky Breakfast Stout. For the first time ever in 2009, Cavalier received an allotment of draft KBS, and the Public House is purchasing one of the kegs. Had it arrived sooner, it would have been listed for Gravity Head. This doesn't mean we can't pour it.
So, for the occasion of the Cavalier sales and management crew's annual expedition to Gravity Head on Friday, March 20, we'll be tapping the KBS as a special Liver Olympics addendum. Of course, all customers may partake of the bounty -- and say hi to the folks who bring these kegs to us.
