The goal remains using the bottled list to educate, and simplifying it so that the beers on it are always on it, every day. There'll be seasonal and specialty offerings, too, as compiled on other lists.

Weihenstephaner Dunkel not making the cut :(
ReplyDeleteAre there some mistakes in cat 15? Schneider Weisse is a hefe not a dunkel. It would be a 15A not 15B.
ReplyDelete(1) We've not been carrying Weihenstephaner Dunkel, anyway.
ReplyDelete(2) The BJCP itself classifies Schneider as Dunkel. It strikes me as leaning in that direction.
1) I discovered that the last time I tried to order it. I was hoping it was just out.
ReplyDeleteIs it not a consistent supply? Because I consider both Weihenstephaners to pretty much define their style. Not that Franziskaner is bad or anything.
2) Huh, yeah they do. Beer advocate has it at as a hefe, which I had open when I saw your post so just checked there. Judge at the KY state fair last year said my hefe reminded her of Schneider Weisse, now I wonder if that was an out of style comment. I considered it a positive at the time.
The current reality is that we sell a ton of Franziskaner, even though I like others better, including the Weihenstephaner and Schneider lines.
ReplyDeleteOne thing we've talked about doing is having periodic "contests" prior to menu revision time, so as to provide the excuse to rotate items.
As for the Schneider: There is no "amber" weizen category, just Dunkel. Schneider's Original is one of the beers that just doesn;t fit comfortably.
